Course Description

Course approved for SNAP Scholarship.

The Refugee English Language Success Level 1 program is a 20-week online/Live-Remote program for Beginner English Language Learners. It is specifically designed to meet the unique needs of refugees in our area seeking beginner level English. 

This program aims to provide a supportive and enriching learning environment, fostering language proficiency, cultural acclimatization, and overall community integration. The program will assist refugees with a successful transition to life in the United States, secure long-term employment, transition to career skills training or continue to college credit courses. The program is geared towards Beginner level only.

Throughout the program students will receive case management services, guidance, and referrals for support services. Upon completion students can access career readiness, job interviewing, resume building and job search skills through NECC and/or MassHire. Students will also be encouraged to continue with their language studies by enrolling in a higher level course, ESOL Supported Career Skills course or Academic ESOL.

Eligibility:

Must be legally authorized to work in the US

Beginner Level English Only

Must be receiving SNAP

Cannot be receiving cash assistance (TAFDC, EAEDC)

Experienced Instructors: Our experienced instructors specialize in teaching English as a second language and possess a deep understanding of the challenges faced by refugees. They create a nurturing learning environment where participants feel comfortable practicing and improving their language skills.

 

Interactive Learning: The program employs a variety of interactive teaching methods, including group discussions, role-playing, language games, and multimedia resources. These activities not only enhance language proficiency but also build confidence in using English in everyday situations.

 

Community Support: We believe that community support is essential for the successful integration of refugees. The program includes networking opportunities within NECC, NECC resources, community events, and partnerships with local organizations to help participants establish a support system.

 

Life Skills Development: Beyond language acquisition, the program also focuses on developing essential life skills that empower refugees to navigate their new environment. Topics such as job readiness, healthcare access, and financial literacy are integrated into the curriculum.

 

Progress Monitoring: Regular feedback sessions and case management are conducted to track participants' progress. This ensures that the program remains adaptive and responsive to the evolving needs of the learners.
